Professional Standard Five
Reflection:
I understand this standard to mean that as a teacher I need to asses students on a fair and equal basis. I am also to use assessment and reports constructively to better my teaching standard and the learning outcomes of the students.
I am a strong supporter of assessment for learning and the benefits this can have on students, especially in the middle years with such diverse capabilities.
Strengths / Weaknesses:
I feel as a teacher I am completely responsible for the outcome of my students and this outcome is in most cases indicated by assessment. Due to human nature I want the best for my students and myself so I may have issues being to easy on marking. I see this could create issues with other classes with different teachers.
I feel my strength would be to asses students creatively. By understanding different students have different learning styles and communication styles the assessment needs to be fair to all.
Artifacts:
- I feel that regular meetings with other professionals to asses my level of marking assessment would be beneficial. Also inquiring into industry readings about different assessment techniques.
- As assessment is a formal task, reading standards and exceptions from schools and industry bodies would also assist.
- Summarize the assessment standards from other teachers
